Executed as an advanced Scientific and Technical Project (PST) at ESIEA (2023-2024), InfiniteFlight focused on radically modifying a Parrot FPV Disco drone for extended surveillance, forest fire detection, and mountain rescue operations.
Hardware & Telemetry Modifications
We engineered several critical hardware upgrades to the airframe:
- Payload & Sensors: Integrated temperature, humidity, and flame-detection sensors, alongside an advanced flight camera. Designed a highly precise, GPS-targeted electromagnet release system for deploying rescue modules.
- Aerodynamics & 3D Printing: Modeled and 3D-printed custom, lightweight parts to optimize the drone’s aerodynamics and durability for extreme conditions.
- Power Optimization: Engineered a hybrid power system combining a high-performance dedicated battery and solar panels, drastically extending the flight time to 4.5 hours and enabling an operational range of up to 150 km.
- Teleoperation: Added a 4G telemetry sensor allowing the drone to bypass standard radio limits. It can be teleoperated live over massive distances or follow a predefined autonomous flight plan.
The project’s engineering rigor and successful test flights culminated in winning the Best PST Award (Coup de Cœur) at ESIEA in 2023.
